New Summer Science Show – FACT or FICTION: Cosmic Chaos!

 Back News - - 1 minute read.
Fancy a trip to outer space in the summer holidays?  With the recent Artemis mission proving that Moon missions are possible again, Dundee Science Centre is taking visitors on a journey like no other!

FACT or FICTION: Cosmic Chaos is a gameshow-style experience where children and families can spin a giant wheel to explore some of the big questions around space exploration, astrophysics and engineering, from what would happen if an asteroid hit Earth to what is the most dangerous thing in outer space.

Visitors can learn how rockets fly, and shuttles achieve flight through experiments with balloon rockets, paper gliders, and planes. And in light of the recent Artemis mission, they can also discover the engineering challenges involved in getting people back to the moon.

Meanwhile, a thermal camera demo will shed light on whether we might meet aliens in space, while presenters also highlight the Mars Perseverance mission, which aims to bring rock samples back to Earth to find evidence of past life.

But could we survive in space? The show will also focus on the inhospitable conditions of space, with the audience marvelling at the crushing effect of atmospheric pressure as it collapses a can, and cringing at the thought of their blood boiling, shown through a reduced-pressure boiling demonstration.

Cosmic Chaos launches on Saturday 4 July – we look forward to venturing into space with you!
