Superbug Showdown: Data vs. Microbes!

- 1 minute read.

Join Research Data Scotland for a hands-on dive into the world of antimicrobial resistance! Explore how data helps us understand and outsmart bacteria that no longer respond to antibiotics through two interactive activities:

Lego Challenge

Step into the shoes of a real-life researcher racing to stop a fast-evolving bacterial supervillain. Your mission? Use data to identify who’s most at risk, apply for access, link datasets together, and build your own treatment plan — all using Lego. Think strategically, act scientifically, and see if you can outsmart the superbug!

Build Your Own Bacterial Supervillain

Ever wondered what helps harmful bacteria survive inside the human body? Examine real data insights and design a custom bacterial foe built to resist cutting-edge medicines. Create your ultimate supervillain — then see if science can stop it.

Card Match

Participants are asked to sort the data into datasets, then into the unique IDs found on the cards. Once they have matched all the data correctly, they need to ‘link’ the datasets to identify a research question from the cards available. The pictures on the cards include laboratory tests and agar plates, and medicines.
