Girlguiding Units Take Over Dundee Science Centre for Special Space-Themed Event
Last week, Dundee Science Centre welcomed Girl Guides, Brownies, and Rainbows from across Dundee, Angus, Fife, and Perth & Kinross, for a very special space-themed takeover event.
Exclusively open to uniformed groups, the centre opened its doors after usual public hours on Monday and Thursday evenings, giving girls the unique opportunity to take over the centre and explore the wonders of space science in an exciting and engaging environment.
The takeover formed part of a national initiative, Our World From Space, funded through the Association for Science and Discovery Centre, and in partnership with the UK Space Agency. The project aims to engage community audiences and promote space science to diverse groups, helping to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators.
During their visit, participants learned about satellite technology, explored the solar system, and discovered more about Scotland’s growing space sector.
The event also featured representatives from STAR Dundee, a local aerospace engineering company specialising in spacecraft on-board data handling and processing technology. Their team engaged directly with the girls, offering insights into real-world careers in the space industry.
Through hands-on activities and interactive experiences, the girls explored space science in fun, accessible ways. The event was designed to break down barriers to STEM learning and introduce young people to potential science career pathways.
The takeover was a fantastic success, with participants leaving inspired, curious, and excited about the possibilities within space science.
