Summary

We are looking for an energetic, motivated Marketing & Audience Development Advisor to join our dynamic team at this exciting period of transformation to be responsible for delivering the planning, coordination, and hands-on support with regards all marketing and communications objectives.

Background

Dundee Science Centre’s (DSC) recent redevelopment through the CONNECT Project has re-imagined and upgraded the in-centre’s facilities and expanded DSC’s science engagement initiatives. The visitor experience has been transformed with a new and accessible exhibition, a Sensory Zone and Changing Places toilet, an early years area, improved outdoor areas, reimagined café and new approaches to engaging communities and growing audiences and our overall reach.

You will implement and deliver the Marketing Strategy, inspiring, involving and coordinating input from internal staff and working with external consultants where necessary to provide the specialised input.

You will be involved in all aspects of the Audience Engagement function including creating and delivering innovative exciting marketing activities which generate excitement and interest as well as raising the profile of Dundee Science Centre across social media and PR channels for all programmes, services, and products.

You will ensure that brand guidelines are implemented and followed and will have an eye for quality ensuring that all materials created are in line with DSC’s personality, voice, and design standards.

You will be an advocate for Inclusion & Diversity, contributing to the development of DSC’s widening access strategies creating a culture of inclusion for our team and audiences. You will build and maintain strong working relationships with key audience groups and partners to develop new opportunities for growth.

We are a small dynamic team, so it is important to be able to inspire and work well with all marketing and support functions including consultants, external suppliers, and internal staff. You will operate within a friendly but fast paced environment therefore excellent organisation, communication and time management skills are essential as well as the ability to handle daily business with excellent accuracy. This is an operational role requiring an energetic, can do, hands-on approach to delivery.

The successful candidate will have a positive, resourceful, and confident nature with the ability to work independently but also play a key role in the team.

You will work flexibly within the Dundee Science Centre team; hours of work to be discussed, flexible working will be considered, and weekend and evening work will be required.

Experience

  • Experience delivering in a hands-on operational marketing post.
  • Successfully coordinating several projects and responsibilities concurrently.
  • Excellent writing and editorial skills.
  • Excellent digital and social media skills.
  • A strong understanding of the visitor attraction, hospitality, retail, and catering sector.
  • Driven in sales, profit, efficiencies and working with a wide portfolio of spaces.
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
  • Experienced in negotiating.
  • Results-oriented approach.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Graphic design ability (desirable).
  • Experience in a Tourist attraction/charity (desirable).

Duties

Duties will include the following:

  • Deliver the Marketing strategy to support the organisation’s ambitious vision and targets, and ensure that its marketing is distinctive, consistent cost-effective, and delivers.
  • You will raise DSC’s profile, generating awareness of DSC and what is has to offer and change audience’s perceptions of DSC in order to generate engagement, visitors, booking and enquiries.
  • Create and manage a mix of ongoing brand and organisational marketing, along with specific, time-specific marketing campaigns through website and SEO work, ongoing organic social media, media relations, e-newsletters and stakeholder relations and partnerships.
  • Ensure that Marketing methods and approaches to audience development are agile and able to adapt swiftly to changes and opportunities.
  • Deliver monthly reviews and analysis of marketing and audience development actions and campaign results, recommending and implementing improvements or redirect spend where necessary, and provide reports to the Executive Team and Board of Directors where required.
  • Line manage the internal and external support team and ensure they are trained to provide necessary support in their roles including compliance in legal regulations as well as standard operating procedures.
  • Inspire and encourage all staff to contribute towards marketing and communications ensuring they deliver a strong customer and commercially focussed approach to our visitor groups
  • Create stronger links with existing and new partners to ensure an audience driven approach to promoting the new aspects of the Centre, specifically working with partner venues around Dundee to capitalise on the expected 300,000 visitors to the city per annum.
  • Disseminate our engagement methods and evaluation findings through our wider sector networks.
  • Learn/adopt best practice approaches to reaching underserved audiences and incorporate these into communications campaigns and increase the use of our widening access initiatives.
  • Ensure that visual and verbal brand guidelines are adhered to across all teams and all activities.
  • Have a good understanding of graphic design and the ability to create digital support documents for programmes, services, and products.
  • Manage the annual Audience Engagement budget.
  • Manage and maintain our website development and its continuing use as an effective marketing tool.
  • Ability to capture photography, film and audio and edit as required.
  • Commission external agencies and providers ensuring best service, quality, and value for money for all marketing requirements.
  • Initiate, lead and manage internal communications.
  • Support DSC to ensure that we meet GDPR, and other legal regulations related to communications.
  • Represent Dundee Science Centre to customers, business partners, trade organisations and media connections.
  • Establish, manage, and utilise a database for marketing and PR purposes.
  • Commission/design display materials, presentation documents and all other marketing support material.

Qualifications

  • Educated or experienced to, degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
  • Membership to a relevant professional body.
  • Full, clean UK Driving License (required).

Status

Fixed term 12-month contract (potential of continuation, funding dependant).

Salary

£24,000 - £32,000 (starting salary will be £24,000).
