Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Dundee Science Centre’s ambition is to develop a curious, confident community engaged with science. We are working with our partners to enhance learning across our region by providing high quality and inter-professional training for practising professionals, those in further and higher education, STEM Ambassadors and others working with children and young people in formal and informal learning settings.
Our professional learning sessions and courses for staff in early years, primary and secondary settings are designed to help you develop your understanding of planning for relevant and challenging learning and teaching within Curriculum for Excellence. Our sessions are also helpful for STEM Ambassadors, and others working with children and young people in formal and informal learning settings.
Through joint programming, a wide range of learning sessions and courses are created and delivered by the Science Learning Institute team and partners. Working with our partners allows us to support educators in making their teaching relevant, engaging and challenging, whilst reflecting cutting-edge science in Dundee and the surrounding area, Scotland and beyond.
We also offer bespoke professional learning associated with learning for a wide range of people including 3-18 practitioners, undergraduate and postgraduate students on an outreach basis. Bespoke courses cost from as little as £10 + VAT per delegate.
STEM Ambassadors are volunteers with an active interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and can offer support to schools by sharing their experience, expertise and enthusiasm. Ambassadors come from a diverse range of backgrounds, and include students, researchers, and professionals in STEM related roles.
Ambassadors are invited to volunteer for a range of exciting and stimulating activities such as curriculum support, working with STEM Clubs, and supporting events and challenges. STEM in Context events provide an excellent opportunity for local STEM Ambassadors and teachers to meet and discuss ways to work together - see the professional learning section. These events feature activities and networking opportunities, and allow time to explore resources available for STEM Ambassadors to bring to schools.
To request a STEM Ambassador visit or support, simply register as a teacher at https://www.stem.org.uk/stem-ambassadors/. You will need to complete a free registration form to do this. A member of STEM East will review your request and contact you to discuss your requirements. You may also contact STEM East directly by visiting www.stemeast.org.uk.
