TAKE PART

The science festival team are constantly looking for new topics, collaborations and  original ways to communicate science. We want to showcase real-life topics and local research and find ways to take this to new audiences. We have a range of different opportunities available and would be happy to discuss any new ideas with you.

Our Call for Proposals is out!

Dundee Science Centre is calling for organisations/individuals to be part of Dundee Science Festival 2019 running from Saturday 5th October – Sunday 20th October.

Managed and delivered by Dundee Science Centre, last year’s Dundee Science Festival reached over 10,000 people. Building on from this success, Dundee Science Festival 2019 will provide a variety of accessible and engaging science experiences in order to reduce barriers to participation for local audiences.

This year, we’re celebrating 10 years of Dundee Science Festival and the collaborators and partners who make it possible.

The festival will be held across the city of Dundee involving local communities and engaging with underserved audiences. Last year we held 14 free to access events in such communities. The festival would not be possible without the wonderful support from our volunteers and therefore we are looking for organisations to be part of the following events:

In-centre Weekend events:

These are drop-in activities at stalls or short talks in our auditorium at Dundee Science Centre. If you work in an area related to any of these topics, would you be able to deliver an activity or demonstration that could communicate your work to a wide audience?

Dates:

5th & 6th October – Themed: Design, Mechanics, Engineering

12th & 13th October – Themed: Space themed

19th & 20th October –Themed: Digital & Gaming

Science Adventures:

These are free family drop-in events that will be held in local community hubs. We want to pack community halls with exciting stalls that they can engage with at their leisure in order to increase accessibility for local people, removing barriers to participation such as finance and transport. These events are a superb opportunity to deliver activities for people who may not have had the same access to science and they always create truly meaningful engagement.

This is an exciting opportunity to engage with a variety of audiences and share your research or raise awareness of your work. Many of our previous experts have found it rewarding and increases their confidence in talking about their research to the public.

For DSF 2018 we held 2 of these events reaching 430 people in 2 communities. Building on that success we are doubling our events to reach 4 communities in 2019.

Dates:

8th October, 9th October &

15th October, 16th October

Discussion Groups:

We’re looking for volunteers to give a 30 minute talk and facilitate an informal Q&A session to increase the audience’s awareness on any scientific topics/research and provide meaningful information through discussion.

These discussion groups will take place in Dundee Science Centre and there is significant flexibility in dates.

Evening Shows:

Each year, volunteers have put on some pretty incredible shows here at Dundee Science Festival. These shows aim to bring a sense of wonder to science for families through demonstrations. If you’d like to co-design and host a show to communicate scientific principles this might be for you. (Generally these shows have been ~30 to 40 minutes.)

Dates:

10th  October & 17th October
