Linda Leuchars

Linda Leuchars

Chief Executive Officer


Linda was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Dundee Science Centre by the Board of Directors in February 2017, after fulfilling the role of Interim CEO from February 2015.

A graduate of Pharmacology and with an MPhil in Biomedicine, Linda entered science communication whilst still working in research, leading to a full-time career change into Dundee Science Centre in April 2008. From 2009 to 2013, Linda led and managed the science centre's Science Learning and Public Engagement initiatives. Linda was then appointed Head of Development in 2014, with additional responsibility for supporting the CEO to provide strategic direction, leading new development projects and fundraising, as well as overseeing the ongoing growth and performance of the learning departments.

Linda is also on the Board of Trustees for the Association of Science and Discovery Centres (ASDC), which brings together over 60 major science engagement organisations across the UK to play a strategic role in the nation’s engagement with science.

Richard Gourlay

Communications Manager

Richard joined the management team at Dundee Science Centre early in 2011.

With over 30 years of experience in the marketing communications industry - business assessment, media relations and brand development have all been part of a major focus of his remit over the years, with responsibility for handling many high-profile marketing accounts and brand initiatives for key players within the Scottish business forum – in particular within the tourism sector.

Richard’s responsibilities at Dundee Science Centre include managing and directing all marketing and communications requirements, and press and public relations for Dundee Science Centre, the Science Learning Institute, Dundee Science Festival and Fife Science Festival.  The role includes strategic guidance and direction for varying disciplines within the organisation, as well as business development crossing over a number of market sectors - tourism, education, exhibitions and events, corporate collaborations and sponsorship.

Richard is actively involved in a number of local business forums and joint initiatives including City Logo (the development and communication of Dundee as a brand, in conjunction with Dundee City Council), DD1 (Dundee City Centre business group) and City Wide Tourism development group.

He also holds the post of Board Director with ASVA (Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions).

Laura Denchfield

HR Manager


Laura is responsible for providing strategic direction to the organisation as well as fulfilling a wide range of HR functions including Personnel, Employee Relations, Employee Development and HRM. 

Laura studied at Abertay University where she achieved her degree in Business Studies with HRM. She then joined the team fresh out of university and progressed up through the organisation studying towards her CIPD qualification at Dundee College along the way.

Lorraine Lemon

Business Manager


Lorraine has over eight years’ experience in this sector, specialising in commercial activities. Lorraine oversees all aspects of the business and ensures the excellence of the visitor experience by developing and maintaining the smooth operation of the services, staff, facilities and exhibits. Lorraine assists the CEO with developing the annual business plan and budgets and monitors the financial position and performance on a daily basis. Lorraine is responsible for business development and ensuring all commercial opportunities are maximised.

Amy Urquhart

Finance Manager


Amy oversees all financial aspects of Dundee Science Centre (the charity) and Dundee Science Centre Enterprises Ltd (the trading company).

Amy makes sure that monthly accounts are completed on time for inspection by our Boards of Directors, ensuring that all financial information is recorded accurately and a full transparent audit trail is in place. She also supports the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Management Team with their budgets, monitors cashflow and prepares and collates information relating to restricted income projects.

Amy is one of the original team members employed by Dundee Science Centre before the centre opened in 2000, and was actively involved in the set-up phase.

Rebecca Erskine

Exhibition and Community Engagement Manager


In her role as Exhibition and Community Engagement Manager, Rebecca leads the development of high quality science and technology experiences to inspire our community through the public programme including travelling exhibitions, live science shows and ‘Meet the Expert’ events. She initiates and coordinates science communication and public engagement training projects which are designed to support STEM students and professionals to gain skills, confidence and inspiration in public engagement with science.

Rebecca’s passion is to make science accessible for all audiences and she leads a number of community engagement initiatives in order to engage ‘hard to reach’ audiences. She builds meaningful relationships with community groups and develops exciting innovative learning experiences in order to suit the needs and interests of all learners.

Rebecca and her team create activities to inspire and increase the community’s confidence in approaching science.

Samantha Wallace

Commercial and Events Manager


Samantha manages Dundee Science Centre’s events and catering department, with specific responsibility for Infusion coffee shop, as well as operational management of the centre.

Samantha originally trained in catering and joined Dundee Science Centre with a background in hospitality. In 2010, Samantha won the Association for Scottish Visitor Attractions’ ‘Rising Star of Tourism’ award for her work in the science centre.

Lucy Wakefield

Projects Manager


Lucy is responsible for identifying and leading projects across the centre. She is currently working on the development of a new science learning facility and interactive exhibition showcasing Dundee's pioneering work in medical technology.

Lucy graduated from the University of St Andrews with BSc (Hons) Biomolecular Science, before moving on to work within STEM Communication and Engagement. She volunteers for Girlguiding UK and the STEM Ambassador Programme, with a strong interest in making STEM accessible for all and raising awareness of the incredible scientific research happening in Dundee and Tayside.

Simon Reynolds

Science Learning Manager


Simon is responsible for Dundee Science Centre's 3-18 Learning Programme, developing and delivering new workshops for Early Years, Primary and Secondary Schools, and providing Professional Learning training for teachers.

Simon studied Physics at Imperial College London and completed a PhD in Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh. He has been a professional science communicator since 2010, running hundreds of events as Physics Outreach Officer at Royal Holloway, University of London and at Imperial College London.

Simon is passionate about inspiring people to pursue their interests in STEM, and about making science more inclusive. He enjoys stretching people's idea of how huge space is and teaching people programming with Lego robots.

Shaun Anderson

IT & Facilities Officer


In his role as IT & Facilities Officer, Shaun is involved in the day to day running of the science centre including general building maintenance and the upkeep of the exhibits. He is also involved with the installation of all exhibitions at the centre, including the upgrading of permanent exhibits and the install of temporary travelling exhibitions we bring in over certain periods of the year.

Shaun provides IT support to the IT & Facilities Manager when required to ensure the organisation runs smoothly and with little disruption. A graduate of Game Design Production Management, Shaun also ensures our website performs at its best.

 Paul Strachan

 Festivals and Community  Engagement Officer


Paul is responsible for developing and delivering quality science learning experiences that engage a wide range of public audiences in-centre and on outreach, as part of Dundee Science Centre’s, Dundee and Fife Science Festivals in addition to building meaningful relationships with local members of the community through the Community Engagement Programmes.

Paul graduated from the University of Dundee with a BA (Hons) Community Learning and Development. This coupled with previous employment has given him experience working in a community-based setting in a variety of contexts, including youth work, mental health and wellbeing and adult learning.

Whilst at university he developed a passion for Science, specifically Maths, and is now studying a BSc(Hons) Mathematics and Physics in his spare time. Having developed a love for science retrospectively, Paul believes that effective communication of Science through means such as the Dundee and Fife Science Festivals is vitally important to creating positive development and change within local communities as well as at a national level.

 Scott Palmer

 Science Learning Officer


As a Science Learning Officer working within the Schools Team, Scott’s primary role is the development and delivery of workshops for school pupils aged 3-18 and providing professional learning for teachers.

Scott received his Bsc. (Hons.) in Immunology from the University of Glasgow in 2011 and his PhD in Biophysics from the University of Dundee in 2016, having undertaken extensive research into the development of laser systems for cancer diagnosis and therapy. While pursuing his PhD, Scott became passionate about education and science communication, frequently collaborating with Dundee Science Centre on outreach and supervising/mentoring research projects by fellow students.

Scott is particularly interested in the communication of interdisciplinary research such as medical technology and hopes to help inspire others to think about how science fits into their everyday lives in unexpected ways.
